The 2023 Honda CL500 Is Your Best Entry-Level Scrambler

The Honda CL500 is a stylish retro bike that shares some design elements with the Rebel, including a round LED headlamp and a round instrument cluster. However, it has its own unique design features such as a higher seat and muffler, tank and knee pads, and a higher handlebar for improved leverage.

The bike is powered by a 471cc liquid-cooled, parallel-twin gasoline engine generating 46hp and 43.4Nm of torque, mated to a six-speed gearbox with an assist/slipper clutch. The CL500 has a rear sprocket with one more tooth than the Rebel, which provides crisper acceleration.

Nice version of the very popular 500

I note with interest that the journalist defines the 500 as an “Entry-Level” model right in the title. That’s on par with how moto-journalists typically view small to mid displacement machines. In reality, an actual owner/rider may consider a 500 the ideal size for a well seasoned rider - ample power without excess weight.

Also amusing is that the one tooth sprocket change supposedly “provides crisper acceleration”. Sure, I like my acceleration to be extra crispy, whatever that means.
