Nc700 skid plate

way over my head, i just no it works. and by the way who is bob??? and i do not like the word inverted, i always have to by handlebars when my bike is inverted. dale

It works, no doubt about it.

Here's another way to look at it, and very easy to understand if you have experience backing trailers, which I imagine you probably do.

As anybody who has done it a lot can tell you, the longer the trailer the easier it is to back it. Basically, when backing all you're doing is giving the front of the trailer a sideways shove to cause it to pivot. For the exact same amount of sideways shove, a short trailer will pivot more than a long trailer, meaning any small adjustments you make at the steering wheel very quickly get translated into large swings (pivots) of the trailer, leading to a lot of over-correcting and/or fishtailing. Increasing the length (distance of control point from pivot point) means the same size sideways shove will result in a smaller change in the swing and will allow a finer degree of control, with more time and leeway to make adjustments.

EDIT:

An easier illustration...

Balance an ordinary 12" ruler vertically on the tip of your finger and keep it upright. Then do the same with a yardstick. See?

i have four dct skid plates half way made, waiting for new dct to come in . should have two bikes in middle of may? the plates i have fit the dct, but do not have enough side cover protection, for the shift motor and ops sensors on the right side,
i do have two plates for nc700x, left one smooth flat black, and one aluminum finish if anyone needs one dale

I'm not sure I really need one of these, but the flat black one looks cool. I don't see any at the link. How much are they? (Delivered to Austin, Texas)

While cleaning out my pockets, I found and looked over the work order from my last service. They added 15 minutes of labor for the skid plate at shop rate so it was only $22.50 they charged not the $45 they quoted. I'm still bringing my bike to your shop whenever possible though, Dale.

The shops tried that BS with me when I had a moose plate on my KLR. They wanted to charge extra to take it off and I showed them there was a hole with plenty of room to remove the plug and drain. They said, "but some of the drainage might drip between the plate and motor and it'll be a pain to clean..." "I said, just wipe it the best you can and I'll take it to a car wash afterwards." Geez, it's not like they're not already over-charging for labor.

When I installed my center stand a week or two back, I had to remove\replace the skidplate. Less than 5 minutes either way - on the floor of my garage with hand tools. With pneumatic tools on a lift - half that time would be messing around.

I know where the black one went and the new owner is excited as heck!NCX Skid Plate 003 paint.jpg

Its almost intimidating the first time you see it in living color, isn't it? I can't imagine anyone mass producing a better quality skid plate than this one.

Impressed would be more fitting. The quality is there and I am very happy with this purchase after installing it. After I got it on I kept thinking, I need a set of off road tires on this bike.

No worries in using a jack to lift the bike with this Skid plate.

Bast*rd!

;) Jealous!

That looks soooo cool. The damned temperature hasn't gotten high enough outside here for me to be able to paint mine yet. :(

Meh, that does it. I'm doing mine this weekend unless it's pouring rain out!

Hopefully I'll soon be having enough silly grin fun, upside down in ravines and such, that it will scraped up anyway, masking my poor rattlecan paint job, heehee!

I think (hope maybe?) that I'm at the head of the line for a DCT version when they are ready to go. Got the "barely" dirt Pirellis ready to mount and might be working on a radiator guard this weekend.

A review in the Pirelli Scorpion Trails would be really appreciated once you have ridden on them a bit.

just got in 1000.00 worth of aluminum plate. should have a new dct end of next week to make plates, will not have a cost on them till i finish the design, and make the second one. if any one has sw-motech case guards let me know, i make a different plate that comes up to the cross bar for them. the dct is a hard one to make a plate for that protects all the left and right side parts, and slides forward to come off, without being a two peace skid plate, witch would loose some strength. dale

I will be wanting one too after I pick up my DCT next month and will have the SW Motech guards.

I really like the look of your bash plate,,looks very solid,,,but can I ask one question,,,why did you attach to the frame with the small 8mm bolts and not attach at the engine mounts???,or maybe to the frame with some bigger fixings,,Personally I always go like to see things "Over engineered"... Please note I am not dissing your shield,,not at all!!!! its just those bolts looks a wee bit on the small side... I am not an engineer,,so maybe you could enlighten me...

I have Dale's skid plate..............I think it is very very well designed, a perfect fit, super strong in both construction and mounting. The mounting bolts are more than adequate IMHO. Along with being strong the mounting system allows easy removal for maintenance.
If you can't tell I am a very satisfied customer:eek:

I really think the plate is so strong and well built it could be attached with 6mm bolts and fit and box construction of the plate would allow to still function perfectly. If the plate mounting system were to give way the bike would have suffered severe unrepairable crash. I really think if my bike were totaled the plate would be one of the parts that would or could be reused.
