way over my head, i just no it works. and by the way who is bob??? and i do not like the word inverted, i always have to by handlebars when my bike is inverted. dale
It works, no doubt about it.
Here's another way to look at it, and very easy to understand if you have experience backing trailers, which I imagine you probably do.
As anybody who has done it a lot can tell you, the longer the trailer the easier it is to back it. Basically, when backing all you're doing is giving the front of the trailer a sideways shove to cause it to pivot. For the exact same amount of sideways shove, a short trailer will pivot more than a long trailer, meaning any small adjustments you make at the steering wheel very quickly get translated into large swings (pivots) of the trailer, leading to a lot of over-correcting and/or fishtailing. Increasing the length (distance of control point from pivot point) means the same size sideways shove will result in a smaller change in the swing and will allow a finer degree of control, with more time and leeway to make adjustments.

Balance an ordinary 12" ruler vertically on the tip of your finger and keep it upright. Then do the same with a yardstick. See?
