Looking at a Madstad-- show your pictures...

I wasn't really happy with my madstad until I made some additional wind deflectors. It's not the end all solution for everyone, depends on your height, etc. Shorter people seem to have less issues, that's the nature of upright, adventure style bikes. my screen is 24", set at the lowest point...

    Madstad deflectors evaluation.

My madstad stock set up was not good in the rain, blows slimy water up your helmet. So much wind noise it was like riding a supersport. I was seriously thinking about ditching it, but my last effort, homemade deflectors make it very quiet, haven't tested it in the rain yet. I just put my hand...

These deflectors greatly reduce wind and noise from my madstad setup.

    wind noise

My bike had the tall honda screen and extension. With that set up I had very little wind noise, but got bad buffeting at the worst times. I put on a madstad, got rid of the buffeting and made the bike ride nice, but the wind noise was extreme. So I thought, hmm, should I try an $800 helmet or...

    Average Fuel Economy

If you keep it under 60mph, then you can get in the 70s. If you ride in the 70mph range, you get in the 60s mpg range. I got 61.5 mpg US, tracking 1000 miles

How many miles did You get with the original motorcycle chain

You can see where the roller has been riding, because there is no lubrication there. Same with the hitch.

Honda UK seem to have dropped the NC700!

I saw one bike on fuelly for the mt09 average 27mpg US, that's how it should be ridden! Pretty neat accessories list, kickstand foot, gps holder, comfort seat and rear rack. I'd like to get one, then I can start the 700 club, hehehe.

How many miles did You get with the original motorcycle chain

There is no room for lubricant between the rollers and the sprocket. It's just metal on metal, like a trailer on a ball hitch. You can lube it, but it doesn't make any difference, every thing will just be squeezed out when it comes in contact. The lubrication on an O ring chain is only to...

    Stator output and tire life?

I've looked again for the electric output. I see the bike's power is kW35 which represents about 47 bhp, as being the power to wheel. My cbr250r 2011 makes about 330 watts at 12v. That has been plenty to run my heated gear. I'm sure the NC700x puts out at least that much, but it would be nice...

    Service-How Often?

Thanks, swissnc700. Do you think that is for the oil change and valves both?

    Service-How Often?

How often is service recommended for the bike, oil and filter change, checking the valves? Thanks for any replies. The intervals should be suggested, in the owners booklet, if you got one with your bike. The valves have screw, nut type adjusters. Looks like checking them yourself, should be easy.

    A perfect commuter bike? 2012 Honda NC700S

Thanks for your mpg updates, they have got me pretty excited. I only average 65mpgUS on my 2011 Cbr250r, which is less than your 700x! I'm thinking of getting another commuter bike so I can have a different riding position sometimes and I have a, soon to be, 16 year old, who has her eye on the...
