It will take some getting used to the NC as it is very different then an inline 4. But it is just as capable around town although maybe a little slower then your Nighthawk, and probably has a lower top speed but is still comfortable cruising at 85 on the highway.

I had the same light problem with my Madstad where it projected a line of light in the air a few inches above shield, right in my line of sight at night. I taped mine up and painted it with flat black Rustoleum paint but havent yet had it out after dark to see if the problem is solved.

Is it just because neutral is in between first and second? I think most of us that have ridden multiple bikes over the years just get used to the fact that you may have to pull up a little harder shifting from 1st to 2nd to avoid hitting neutral.

It will actually count down the fuel going to 0.1 and down to 0.7 or so. Not sure how far it will count down before it actually runs out, most I have gone is like 0.3 but I am sure some folks have run it dry and know.
