    break in oil question

(deleted) At the risk of tuning this into an endless oil thread fight I'll offer up an opinion. (deleted)

    Noob replacing first chain

Jason, you had some good luck there, gods were looking out for you. Many of us likely learned why you replace a chain by having one break under power and destroy an engine case. I run on the loose side of the spec. I use 35 to 40mm in mid chain movement. I'm just north of you in Canada so kms...

    Noob replacing first chain

My guess is your sprockets are worn. I always replace sprockets with the chain. If not both at least the front. When your old chain stretched it opens up the teeth to the stretched link length. A new chain has almost no option but to quickly stretch to this. Change every 5000 and the sprockets...

What is the best bike you have ever owned ?

2008 drz 400 Ahh I forgot about the husky - 250 Husky cr that I raced in the late 70's. I loved that bike.

    Chain guard/hugger option?

The power bronze hugger is a good option for the nc. I'm not sure what your expectations are but they do nothing but look cool if you don't modify them. I added a piece of rubber to the front to extend it below the swing arm to protect the shock and a duck bill on the back which works well to...

    Soft Saddlebags

You definitely need a rack to support soft bags. I'm using the SW Motech quick release side racks which are expensive but really nice. Very happy I bit the bullet and spent the $ on the racks. The bags on the other hand are very reasonably priced and like Strat Tuner I am a big fan of soft bags...

    Mpg?

Fuel prices in B.C. (that's British Columbia although the Albertans claim it stands for "Bring Cash") took a 15% jump in the last few days. Now paying 149.9 L in the interior and in the high 150's on the coast. Think I'll be a little easier on the throttle this summer.

For the rider who wants it all !

I went to the North American page and they were out of stock on anything except xxl. Moving on.

    Seat Concepts cover materials...thoughts?

It's been a couple of years since I bought the footpegs. Found them online, don't recall the make. I think they lower 40mm. They're not hard to find if you search a bit. Only down side is you tag the ground with them if you are pushing it a bit in the corners. Having a second position for your...

    Seat Concepts cover materials...thoughts?

Huge improvement over stock but have struggled to make my nc comfortable. I've mentioned it in a few other threads. I think it has less to do with the seat than the general rider position. Especially for a tall rider. I'd definitely raise the front with the seat raise mod. No issues accessing...

    Seat Concepts cover materials...thoughts?

Also if you have air or can access air an air stapler makes it much easier to do a good job on the install

    Seat Concepts cover materials...thoughts?

I have the carbon sides with the gripper cover on a couple of bikes including my nc. Highly recommend the gripper top.

What seat is installed on your NC700?

I went with a seat concepts. I have seat concepts seats on two other bikes and was really happy with them. Not so much on the nc750. I'm not totally convinced it's all in the seat. For a tall rider the nc is not a comfortable bike. Us tall guys raise bars, lower pegs etc to try and manage it but...

    Spare Fuel

Mine fits just under the sw motech rear rack. I use sw motech quick release side racks and soft bags. From my trip to see the total eclipse of the sun.

Honda bringing the NC750X to the USA.

Interesting news. I wonder if Honda will issue a remap for the higher rpm on older bikes? I understood the major difference between the 700 and the 750 was the addition of some balancing mechanism to deal with complaints of engine vibration in the 700.

Dunlop Trailmax alongside Michelin PR4...night and day difference!

PR4s are a nice tire but they don't last. T30's last longer, are less expensive and I'm with dduelin on the handling. I just switched from the PR4s to the T30s.

    New to Riding

I was suggesting a higher quality filament bulb. An inexpensive simple upgrade. I'm celebrating my 50th year of riding this fall. Started riding dirt bikes at 12. Doesn't really mean anything, the more you learn the more you realize you don't know. I'll say this about being visibility...

Best economical rear tire for mostly on road use?

I've had the same experience with the PR4s. I just switched to T30s. Very nice. A bit slower handling than the PR4 but very stable. I have an aviation background and to me the T30 is like coordinated flight, when the tail and wings are trying to do the same thing. The T30s feel like both wheels...

    New to Riding

Your right on with your perception of value for the expensive lights. You do get good simple wiring and custom mounting with the more expensive lights but if your willing to do a little fiddling with the wiring and the mounting the cheaper lights work well. Like 670 that's what I run and am very...

Stuck trying to install 3-1/2" risers

I modified the pin on the signal light switch cluster to rotate it up a bit. I was constantly hitting the horn. Agree the pins are stupid.
