So I'm writing the list to see if anyone on the forum:
a) has tried/owned both motorcycles and can report any of the critical differences you noticed
b) can provide any insight (besides what a 'v-strom vs nc700x' google or youtube search can)
...
The physical size difference is what I think will be a larger deciding factor for me. I, for whatever reason, have gotten used to and now enjoy the bulky fairing and tall frame of the DL650, "piloting" around this large mass of a machine. The NC700x's smaller frame seems like it's a blast to flick around, and I'm very interested in trying out the 'diesel-like' motor characteristics, while getting 60+ mpg.
Any insight appreciated!
Hey Klimber, I have had two DL650's and loved them both (K06 and K09 outfitted with Pelican side cases and otherwise set up for touring with MadStad bracket/windscreen/other farkels). I just took delivery of a 2016 750X DCT.
I seriously considered a new Vstrom when I started looking for a new bike last summer. I test rode a new Vstrom and a 2015 750X (Manual) and was really torn, but the availabity of the DCT made it a 'no brainer' for me. My riding is mostly commuting and day trips right now although I am sure I will add bags/top case at some point. The DCT is a joy to ride in stop/go traffic and I really notice the lower center of gravity compared to the Vstrom. The DCT is Sport mode really reminds me of the Vstrom in terms of performance--I am sure off the lline I could be faster on the Vstrom but the 750X has impressive torque and get up also and it is so damned smooth.
As much as I loved in particular my last Vstrom that had many happy miles up and down the Oregon Coast, I have no regrets about buying the 750X DCT. It continues to impress me every time I ride it over another rode that I used to visit on the Vstrom. I too liked the 'bulk' of the Vstrom but I actually find the compactness of the Honda in comparison to be a nice change also and like I said the lower COG is something you appreciate very quickly!
Just my 2 cents--good luck with your decision!
