Why a NC700X?

Plot twist!

I found a 2015 nc700x right here in my own hood for a blowout price of $4999--same price I was going for with the 2013. Deal!

I don't see why this is a hard bike for dealers to move; I guess most people want to believe they are racers, or Hell's Angels, or world travelers. But this is really the bike I need, and probably the bike most of them need, if they were upfront about it.

I called off work and I'm going out to ride!

That Black looks really good. I would have loved getting it in black. If I didn't hate painting so much I would change mine to black.

Chewy,
Since you're a big guy, I would recommend the $160 Seat Concepts kit. It uses the stock pan and you can install the foam and cover yourself, if you desire. It is a thick seat and it removes the forward slope. It's not good for average to small folks, but might be the ticket for you. I don't use one due to being average height, but Nortwestrider loves his.

Edit to add: Seat Concepts and Saddlemen were the only seats out of the five I tried (stock, SC, Sargent, Shad, Saddlemen) that, in my opinion, removed the forward slope. I never tried Corbin due to concerns about their product quality, lack of service, and the big Corbin banner on the side. In my findings, Seat Concepts raised the height, Shad lowered it after the soft foam broke down, and the rest pretty much maintained stock height.

There's probably an owner of a black one out there somewhere that would love to swap his/her 10 black plastic pieces for your grey ones.

Painted mine pearl white*, the black is terrible to keep even close to clean around here.

* had them painted

^Yes, I want to mirror this set-up in the end, save maybe the heated grips (Florida).

I don't know what part of FL but don't dismiss the grips so quick. The last few mornings when I rode out the temps were high 30's low 40's and hot grips were really nice. Heated grips let me use light to medium weight gloves instead of bulky "winter" gloves here in north Florida. By 9 or 10 am it's 50 and grips are turned off and just a warm memory. Heated grips are one of the first farkles I add on a bike and while the Honda ones are real nice I buy aftermarket $30 to $50 Symtecs, Heat Demons, or Dual Stars. I install the heating elements under the original grips.

chewybrian, congrats on your purchase. I think you will not have any buyers remorse. I sure don't. I am 6'3" with a 34" inseam and bought a Shad comfort seat. It is quite comfortable well padded and adds a small increase in seat height. Anyway good luck and ride safely!

Side note! I noticed how even Honda can't post proper info on their Web Site. It's my understanding that the 2015 model has a charcoal colored engine. Honda shows it as silver grey even in their own photos.

It does. The darker engine started with the 2014 model, which I have, and on the black bike, it looks great.

The website pics are correct. The 2015 engine is a darker grey rather than the earlier models grey but it's not charcoal black.

Number 1, most important, is that I liked the way it looks and feels. Price was good, fuel economy excellent, and daily usability is better than anything else out there. I'm thrilled after 3 years and 33K miles because its a Honda, and nothing ever seems to break.

I love my OEM bags BTW. the mounting system is sleek and neat when I ride without them, and they handle everything I NEED for a weekend of camping. In splitting traffic for commuting, the side bags are as narrow as the bars, so it you fit the bars through, the bags fit. Nice to know.

Are you sure? OK, I don't own one so I wouldn't know for sure. But, going by these pics, the ones from two dealers and one from Honda, the Honda pic sure looks different. Compare the engine to the lower cowl plastic. These are supposedly all 2015 model pictures.

The photo above, with the grey engine, is the 2013 model. Honda didnt update the photos for the NC for 2014 or 2015. They updated for 2016 because there were significant changes warranting the new photos.

Here are a couple of my 2014 bike. That is not a grey engine like the one in the photo above. It is black.

In the US, the 2013 came in red or grey (silver), but not black. Maybe it's the 2013 Europe model in the photo, which was available in black. At any rate, the US Honda photo is inaccurate.

You guys are right about the right side profile picture of the 2015 on the web site. The 2015 engine cylinder block, cylinder head, transmission cases are dark grey, a darker shade than silver of early bikes, but not black. The right side cover over the clutch and left side one over the flywheel are darker, very dark charcoal but not black. Black is the wheels and actual fairing plastics.

Thanks again to everyone who has replied so far. It seems clear that people are happy with their choice of this bike. There is some good info here so far, and I'm sure I'll pick up plenty on this forum.

Well, I got it, and of course went riding. It was a great day to ride here in Fla.; 70ish and sunny. It just took a bit of attention to avoid reverting to dirt bike rev mode. I never hit the rev limiter, never stalled or felt nervous on the bike. It really is a 'beginner's bike, in the good sense. The bike performed well in every task I threw at it, from highway speeds to tooling along the Indian River banks at 25ish.

The bike seems like about the most bang for the buck anyone could ever expect. Just 'tree fiddy' for full coverage and five bucks a week for gas and I'm good to go. I suspect I could use it every day for many years for a just a couple bucks a day total cost, less than bus fare.

If I had to find a complaint...

Yes, out on the road the forward slope was annoying. I'll live with it for a while to see, but I suspect I'll want to change it. I want it to be taller if possible without the forward slope--suggestions welcome.

Other than that, I think I'd like to add a rack and some Trekker style boxes on the back, and possibly some LED fog lights on the front for added visibility--more suggestions welcome. I'm considering crash bars, too; not for dirt riding, but just for tip-over protection. I can't think of any other mods on my radar, but of course I'm looking forward to seeing what else others have done to theirs. thanks, all.

Main suggestion is to search "seat mod" and pick this one - http://nc700-forum.com/forum/nc700-mods/1574-seat-mod-slope-change.html?highlight=seat+mods

Read the whole thing. There are several ways to do it. It is easy and you will be happy with the results. But the seat itself is not well padded so then you search more and there are lots of threads of all the seats available out there....and opinions of them.

Ditto on all the farkles. Look around and you will see gobs of good information.

Have fun.

I'm 6'1 with ~35" inseam........my 2 cents

New seat is a must. I played with the stock seat, slope mod, additional layer of foam, etc. Forget it for long rides and get a new seat. I went seat concepts. I did still have to do a partial slope mod but after that I can ride it all day without my butt being sore. Did an iron butt coming back from CO (~23hrs) and my butt was fine. Also additional height in a seat is good for leg space.

Lowering pegs work great. Drops the knee and reduces the knee angle. I currently use off-road lowering pegs, I ride a lot of FS roads, but previously had lowering street pegs and they were great. I had the ones from twisted throttle which are pricy but they were about the only option at the time. More options are available now.
Highway pegs are good on long rides so you can stretch out the legs. Lots of threads/posts on them.
Handlebar risers really help with the ergonomics for tall people. I have Rox 2" risers. Lots of posts on the risers.

As for luggage racks, in my opinion, SWMotech are the most versatile and are strong. There are adapters for almost any company's luggage.

Interesting thread.

I guess a google search brought me here because I am considering the same 3 bikes. My need for the bike is a little different though. I need a commuter, I do 80 miles a day mostly highway miles. My racing days are also behind me and I need a comfortable ride for the daily 80mi, split some traffic here and there, and a bike i do not need to fill up everyday. My question though is, is this a highway bike? I am 6'3'' 200lbs and am usually cruising at 75mph and I really enjoy some get up and go. I've owned a variety of bikes from HD's to race bikes, have not had a bike for the last 5 years. I will not take anything off-road, no interest in that.

Should I keep considering the NC700 or move on to V-Strom and Versys, what say you? Appreciate the help guys!

Sorry, but I dont know what else can be said that hasnt already been covered either in this thread, or the others like it previously posted here.
