Help ID Hose

Greetings,

During a recent hurried installation of some crash bars I pinched a hose that I need help identifying. I noticed while I was replacing the chain that I had made a mistake. I taped it up but I will have to replace it as soon as possible. Can anyone tell me the purpose of this hose? See attached pictures.

The photos appear flipped. If it helps, it is the left side of the bike above the chain.

Yes, you will do it no harm and there are no driveability issues. If you don't overfill the tank it most likely will never have anything to vent.
