Tail bag mounting

Picked up a soft tail bag for my 2012 NC700x. I mounted it over the rear seat but don't really like the placement or the look of the straps from all four corners to mounting points on the bike. I'd like to move it back off the rear seat but this will require some kind of rear rack. I can't see spending a couple hundred dollars to mount a $40 bag. I've tried searching but haven't come up with much. What kind of homemade racks have some of you come up with to mount tail bags?

What brand/model of bag? I have an Ogio tail bag with the straps going under the pillion seat...I just zip tied them together the seat and it does not interfere with the opening/closing of the rear pillion.
