2017: What did you do to/with your NC700 today?

Got dumped on in 38 - 42 deg weather on the way home today. Winter gear did well..
but my Sedici "Water Proof" boots... not so much.

Sedici Lorenzo Waterproof Boots - Cycle Gear

After a trip on Wednesday they will be going back. What sucks is they are comfortable and were warm..
But 30 min in a downpour and the top of my feet were wet. Not the top as it was coming in from the opening, but the top of my actual foot right by my toes.
Really disappointed.

My IXS jacket did great as well as my tour master pants... but the damn boots. ERRRRR.

Also... drivers SUCK in heavy rain. Could not believe the stupidity I witnessed.

I have found that the only true waterproof boots are rubber boots - so no good for riding. My fix is the best boots I can afford and to to wear "sealskin" socks which ARE waterproof, warm and contain Merino Wool which makes them antibacterial (good for several days on a tour!)

I have the Forma Adventure Low boots and have yet to get wet feet. Being 45 minutes East of you I get very similar weather and got dumped on yesterday too. The boots are warm enough, especially with the appropriate socks, and they do not take too long to dry out. They are a quality leather which means that you can also maintain them with the proper treatments to help them last even longer and withstand even harsher conditions, but out of the box I've not had any issues. Break-in time was minimal too. The grip and protection is also good. I had to make an unplanned day-long stop at a secondary business where I didn't have my office shoes with me. The boots were comfortable all day, not too bulky or screaming "biker", nor were they too hot being in an office for 8+ hours. In the middle of the summer they weren't too hot riding either, but I believe you've got the warm weather boots already covered so that shouldn't be an issue for you.

Cold start this morning, but my daughter still rides without complaint and is not looking forward to giving up the two-wheels when the white stuff gets here!! For me, today I installed the thermal liner to my riding pants, switched to my thicker fleece and added a beanie cap & glove liners. Also re-installed the breath-box to the helmet. 36⁰ and 40 minutes after leaving home to get to work via daughters school and I could just barely start feel some cold spots on my fingertips. Heated grips were at 4 though, so maybe going to 5 would have prevented that?! Otherwise it was a beautiful morning commute with an awesome sunrise!!

Sorry about your boots. I wear a wellington type cowboy/work boot which I usually buy from basspro. The pair I buy are waterproof and after years of owning the pair I currently have, they are waterproof (as long as I put on rain pants before the rain). Next spring I will have to buy another pair or get a new outsole put on. After 3.5 years of constantly wearing them, the outsole is getting kind of smooth. They work great, easy to pull on, the outsoles are slip proof.

Occasionally they have them on sale for less than $90.

How is the sizing? My other Alpinestar boots do very well. I wear a 12 and I can buy a 12 in them. Is Forma true to size?

Just fill your bathtub with water 5-6 inches and go stand in the tub with the boots on. :)

No zipper is waterproof. A well designed bike boot keeps the driving rain away from the zipper and lets well dressed and proofed leather do it's job. Stand in the bath - you'll get wet feet.

I beg to differ. As stated above, my wellington style waterproof boots are waterproof and they have the zippers on the side. I never use the zippers as I pull them on with the pull tab on back of boot. At KSL2017 this past May, on Sunday morning, it was raining cats and dogs from Mo's to Lexington Ky. I was dry and my feet were dry (new rain jacket and pants from wife, and my 3 yo Wellington boots).

Sedici boots from cycle gear...just return them. They're pretty good about returns or so I've heard. I am a pretty firm believer in spending a little extra if you're really going to be "riding in the rain". An occasional shower is one thing, torrential hours long down pour is another.

Rolled into La Paz, Baja last night. This is what I found in the morning- exposed core. Located only new tire that fit and had it mounted and ready to roll again. Perelli angel ST 180/55. $317, eight dollars to install. Amazon has for $122. Hard to find tire of proper size, no choices. Old tire was Bridgestone Battlax 023, 6000 miles. Cord was only showing on 1/4 of tire, remainder looked fine.

Despite being early, went by the park where the 3rd Pahrump NV Rally Nov. 2-5, 2017 (ADVrider Rally - 3rd Pahrump NV Rally Nov. 2-5, 2017 | Adventure Rider) is being held, and found a RV already there and set up. They said that they were told by city officials that it was ok and the city workers unlocked electrical outlets for us.

So I commenced to set up my Moto-Mule RV configuration and set up my NC’ into its off-roading configuration.

This trip I didn’t even bother bringing a larger tent, I’ll just sleep on the ‘mule for the duration.

I finally got around to installing my latest farkle, Doubletake mirrors.

Weather couldn’t be any better, l’m really looking forward to some nice off-roading rides this week!

Yikes $317?!?!?! Note to self before going to Baja next year, make sure everything on the moto is ready! Btw, are you riding any dirt down there? Plan to ride from so cal to Cabo while camping along the coast and meeting my wife down in Cabo.

Be interested on what rides you take the NC700X on over there. Was thinking I do more road trips around Death Valley since I’ve done most of popular trails there on the DR650.

No dirt on this trip. Did dirt last February but did not enjoy it on the 700 with the DCT. My WR 250 is much better suited for that. There is plenty of dirt you should be able to find though. Plenty of camping also. Sounds like a good trip.

Getting too cold to ride, so I put the bike away.

Washed it, cleaned and lubed the chain, ACF 50 treated the metal parts, fuel stabilizer and on the battery tender.

Till next year! [emoji22]

The time will fly by. You could always work your farkle wish list

NC gave me the stink eye this morning as I grabbed my rain gear from its pannier. It knows I'm driving 4.5 hours away to pick up and ride home my Super Tenere. I consoled it and reminded it that it was still my daily commuter and would not be leaving anytime soon but it still glared at me untrustingly.

Picked a hell of a day to ride 4 hours 257 miles home. Going to be 35-40, rain with potential snow the whole way back. I guess I'll earn this bike from day 1.

Also, I may need a place to live once this bike gets here as I haven't 100% explained the situation to my wife. She knows about the bike, I just haven't brought it up n a minute.

OK... 4.25 hours in 38 deg weather in a CONSTANT DELUGE. Holy mother of all that is wet that was an insane rain...
Picked up my Super Tenere and I'm not going to lie... that's a whole different beast. Suspension is a whole new level, motor is smoooooth and the shaft drive is awesome. The bike is planted even while driving through a highway that is basically a river... My NC is still a great bike, but damn man...

Now.. what sucked... my helmet's screen fogged so badly I couldn't see. The pinlock seemed to trap fog... also my glasses fogged so I had to remove them...
After 2 hours my gloves were so wet that my fingers started to freeze. But again, I have never seen such a downpour in my entire life. That ride was insane. When a truck was in front of me the mist turned into frozen fog and stuck to my shield.... What a harrowing ride. I have never been so happy to be home!!

Pics of the S10 next to his new buddy the NC tomorrow!
:D

I bought my NC today! Haven't actually seen it yet, but I'm told it's marvelous. Picking it up from Southern Arizona this weekend and looking forward to the long ride home.
