I've never ridden the Tail of the Dragon. Unfortunately, I was at the NRA Convention the weekend that the group on this forum went. None of my good-for-nothing friends have bikes, so I'll probably be going alone.
My route there would get me there in just over 5 hours. And my route home would be just under 5 hours. My plan was to leave home around 7:00 am and be home around 7:30 pm. That would leave time to make a few stops here and there and more importantly grab lunch and a reasonable break at Deal's Gap Motorcycle Resort before I go up against the dragon. I've never ridden longer than 3 or 4 hours in a row before.
Is this too many miles in a day?
Am I crazy for thinking I can pull this off?
Am I going to enjoy the trip if I rush it like this?
Most importantly, is it safe to run that road after a 5 hour ride and a short break?
