Does our key have a chip?

I lost a key today so now I am down to one. I have searched on the forum and looked at the owners manual but I cannot tell if the key has a transponder in it. If it does, is my only option to get another key at a Honda dealership? My NC is a 2015. I would think that it does have a chip.

I don't believe so. I had two spare keys made at my local hardware store and have no problems with either of them.

I think it's only the HISS enabled bikes, so not in the US.

Thanks guys. That explains why I saw it both ways on different forums. I think I saw a reference to chips on a New Zealand forum. Now I just need to find a hardware store that has Honda blanks.

No chip on US models. The blank is number HD109.

The 2012 models do not have chips. Since it is a two sided key, I would suggest taking it to a locksmith to have a new one cut. There is a right and wrong way to cut a two sided key. Found this out from my locksmith.

Some ace hardware store can make duplicate key's if they carried HD109 blank key.

Chances are very slim at a hardware store. Better go to a Lock/Safe store where they have a huge variety.
