Dunlop Trailmax D609 replacement?

Are these bikes hard on tires or something? 1790 miles? 3000 miles? I got over 7,500 miles out of the tires on my 717 pound 125 hp ST 1300 and my 630 lb 145 hp FJR and have over 7000 miles on the tires on my 545 pound 85 hp CB 1100 with another 1000-1500 miles of tread left to go.

You'd think you would get over 10k miles out the tires of a sub 500 pound 55 hp motorcycle.

Just bad OEM tires. I have 2500 miles on my Avon Trailriders and they look like they should be good for around 7000 miles. These tires are 80/20 tires so they will wear faster than a good sport touring tire.

Good choice, you must twist that throttle harder than me, I got 3000 miles.
My rides have a lot of speed changes and the shifting that goes with it. I do twist the throttle so the bike shifts at about 4500-5000 rpm.

I typically get about 4000 miles out of a rear tire on these back road rides (other bikes). If I go on a long trip where there is more steady speed running I get about 6000 - 7000 miles.

what kind of street surfaces do you have hulkss? Usually good asphalt? Tar and chip? blacktop?

So did you wear your tires out yet?
They are close now. I put 1405 more miles on them during my trip. On a canyon ride last night I crossed over 3000 total miles. I am nearly at the wear bars on the back tire and the front is cupping pretty bad. I am looking for replacements now, even though I still feel safe to drive on them locally for a little while longer. I am looking at the Road 5, trying to decide if I want to replace and balance myself or pay someone to do it.

That is so sad. What is the point of getting great gas mileage, if you get such crappy tire mileage lol

I guess the point is that it's good for Honda dealers. They sell tires and mounting services, but they don't usually sell gas.

No, they are not hard on tires. The OEM choice of the D609 was a very bad choice on Honda's part. My 2015 got 5000 miles plus on the D609 but every other tire I put on it went 8000 miles or so. The 2012 came on Metzeler Z8s and I replaced with same Z8s then Michelins after with expected results of 8000 plus miles.

My point is, you shouldn't buy a new motorcycle that requires you to buy tires in 3000 miles. At that rate my tires will last about 90 days... as I normally ride about 2,000 miles a month.. sometimes 3000 miles a month. Thanks a lot Honda!

Do you know what brand and model tires will be on your bike?

Note that each year I can recall came with two different OEM brand tires. The 609s justifiably were terrible.

lol nope, but some are reporting Dunlop Trailmax D603 tires are now employed.

I also don't know if it will have Dual Bending fork front forks, or linked braking, or self cancelling turn signals, or rear emergency flashing turn signals, or slots in the top frunk piece, or better reshaped seat, or better windshield or anything else I've heard or read it's supposed to have. Will just have to wait and see.

Just installed a set of Dunlop Trailsmart on a Crosstour. I knew the history and reputation of the Dunlop D609.
The part of reason was chaparral had a tire sale $129 for a set. ( front and rear for $129 shipped with tax)
In the details
  • Revised tread pattern for improved mileage compared to the Trailmax TR91

So we will see how they perform. First 200 miles no complaints.
Replaced the stock Bridgestone Battlewing 501 this was the second set. Second front tire had the hand off the bars decel shake;):eek:

when you start with 5/32 and have to replace at 2/32 that certainly doesn't give you much rubber to burn.

the oe Metzler Tourance on my 2021 measures 8/32 rear

but only 5/32 on the front

That’s normal with tires to have 5/32 F and 8 or 9/32” R when new.
