Light bar question

Greetings to all. I just picked up a new NC700XD today and so far I am very pleased with it.

Right now I need to find out if the light bar accessory that Honda supplies doubles as any type of protection for the bodywork or the engine in the event of a crash. I am interested if it does protect the bike but if it is mainly just a "light bar" then it can wait. The literature doesn't really say and the people at the dealership were clueless. Has anybody here had any direct experience with this piece.

It would appear that the light bar is just that and offers no protection. I have fitted a set of Givi engine bars to my X which offer good protection

Yeah, that's what I thought too. It just fits too close to be any protection.

That's right, RIDE more...write less.
With my situation, sorry to say, I write more than I ride.
Why? Family man....
