2017: What did you do to/with your NC700 today?

I'm guessing stock steel sprockets get way more life than the stock chain. I hit 10,000 on the stock chain some time ago, and it's still looking/feeling right and with little or no stretch though. Guess that Dupont Chain saver is paying off, partly because it doesn't attract or build up crap, partly because I don't overdo it. Thinking about getting a front sprocket cover like this though, for easy cleaning. $24.50 shipped, anodized in various colors.

There is one available for the DCT bikes.

I have that cover. I didn't like how it left the wires running up the case kind of exposed so I cut up the stock cover and the stand-offs on the new one to mate them together. Works great.

Drillin' holes in bike parts tonight. Going with four holes in the Gold Valves. Dropped the forks to do it. Went with 5 turns of preload on my caps too. Bike sag is 30/144mm and rider sag is 44/144mm. Went for a ride on my test road which is horribly buckled and sucks even in a _car_. The front is much quieter so I really notice the back end bucking now...

Some stuff is just a PITA. I saw an article a long time ago about some bikes that had completely enclosed chains. A plastic housing that kept out nearly everything. It looked horrible but chains in that environment lasted "forever". I don't get (and never have) how so much "form" displaces "function". Saving a shaft drive on the NC ($$$) it would make it just more of a low maintenance slugger.

I have experience with these on drive chains in industrial environment. Keep level of oil in guard so the chain is in constant oil bath. They do last forever. Must seal tight or dirt gets in oil turning it into a grinding compound. Problematic to inspect.

So today I hit the 90% Farkel mark for my NC.
I added what I wanted, things I thought made sense and things to make my ride more comfortable.

These include:
Givi Trunk and rack.
PIAA 510 Lights
Honda Light Bar
Sargent Seat.
Fork socks
Fenda Estenda
Puig Wind Screen with Ebay Lip.
HondaPro Nut Plates (IMPORTANT!)
Ebay Radiator protector
Ebay Handlebar risers 2" straight up
Ebay dirt bike bar rod to use as a "stuff mount"
Storm single mount hand protectors
Danmoto exhaust (love it)
Tech Spec Gripster Tank Grips.

My favorite Farkels... Hand protection. Amazing. Winscreen Awesome. Lip - Awesome.
And honestly besides the trunk, the Tank Gripsters are the BEST mod. You just don't move in a turn.
Seriously changed the comfort level a lot, almost as goos as the 2" bar risers...

I am so happy with the bike I actually stopped looking at other bikes. (Which is a weird feeling)

The only thing left which I will have to save for is my Panniers.
Picked out the 33L Givi Trekkers and rack... but even from IT,
that $670 to my door and I have $2... so that a "goal".
Been averaging 150 - 300 miles a week on the bike.
Commuting everyday I can.

Anyways.. here she is.. 90% done...
:D

your bike is looking good. What phone holder is that?

Looking good, but:

Haven't been here long have you. You may have 90% of your current list. Hang around here and the list just keeps growing with 100% just a pipe dream..

Well I used the forum to read and study what made sense. And I shunned a lot of crap I probably would have fallen for if not for the info in these logs. So yes, the Farkel ideas will never leave me, but my education of what I should actually use has been solidified by the members here. :D

This all being said.. if someone can show me how to mount the TUSk panniers (with detailed pics) with either the GIVi or MS racks... I'd probably have those. :D

Did I take the first oil change at 600 miles to seriously?

Given that Honda lives in the metric world, 1000 km was probably the chosen first oil change mark, because it's, well, a nice round number. That would translate to 621.371 miles, which is not a nice round number. So what say we use 600 miles even? Sure, sounds good!

The point is that I doubt there is all that much science to the 600 mile oil change number. We don't even bother with it on car engines.

I put a lot of little things on the first year here and there as I could afford them, now that I've decided to keep the bike for awhile, this year I'm going with the big ticket items: suspensions, seat, windscreen (if it'll clear my handguards) etc...

Went on a nice spring ride for about 180 miles. Temp was in the 50's so not too bad. Hit the 20,000 mile marker and I just replaced my first chain ever. With the help from you tube. Weather is finally getting into the 60's!

Had the oil changed yesterday afternoon at 8K mark. Took that Redbug out today for a 272 mile foggy start ride through Eastern TN and Western VA back roads with some Interstate in the beginning. Great day. Nicely tired. Got 76 mpg on first fill up which included about 60 miles of interstate highway speeds. Like riding your personal oil refinery. Come over and visit me sometime.

Comfortably warm today...unless you're doing work outside. lol
Drilled some holes...re-drilled hole on correct side (guess I have somewhere to put an LED later...). Test-fit grip control pot. Put cable clamp on back side to hold wire(s):

Someone I know on Facebook/ADVRider owns two Heinkel Tourists, both scooters have their drive chains in an oil bath. I think one of the bikes had it's chain replaced at 125,000 miles a couple of years ago.
