2017: What did you do to/with your NC700 today?

Yesterday I went to France, just because it was already 18 years ago that I went there :')
Roads are in great shape, but man, so many speed traps.
I hope I didn't get caught speeding with 10 km's over the speed limit, because that would be really stupid.

I put the Madstad on for the cooler weather.
Went for a short ride to try out different positions.
Just below top setting and tilted back slightly seemed best.
I may take off the winglets and try it tomorrow.
Remembered I needed to plastidip the bottom few inches, not to stop light refracting through the windshield, but to stop the reflection in the bottom of the windshield.

Was a damp damp day today. Made to work with dry socks and damp crotch...made it home with really wet socks and damper crotch. Me thinks the weekend will be shopping for new over pant and pulling trigger on new waterproof boots.

It was a pretty nice evening for Autumn so I took my middle daughter to youth group on the bike, helping her earn extra 'cool credits' with her peers for being a biker chick with an awesome leather jacket!! The guys thought the bike was pretty cool too. This will hopefully help offset the "what, that old dude?" comment I heard from one of the team captains when one of his team mates who actually knows me told him to pick me for kickball! LOL At least I successfully put my football (soccer) heritage to good use and kicked a home run with people already on bases!!

I was originally going to head to North Carolina for a few days of riding, but changed my destination to northern Arkansas. I got NC unloaded and the mini toy hauler set up at camp. Now to plan some routes for tomorrow’s ride!

I was going to surprise you in NC, but the rain forecast put me off the idea.
You have essentially avoided the rain and have the whole week in AR- nice.
.
I'm headed to Centerville, TN tomorrow for some all-u-can-eat ribs as consolation :)

DCTFAN, sorry we couldn't meet up. Yes, the weather forecast was a big factor on the destination change. Plus, with daylight getting short, it probably would have been dark by the time I got to the Smokies, what with heading east, too. I don't like driving mountain/forest roads in the dark. I'll be doing KSL in the spring, for sure.

Did a wonderful 250 mile ride through the Ozark mountains today. The weather was near perfect: heavy overcast skies, temperatures hovering around 70*F. A little spell of fog on a mountain top, a few mists of rain unworthy of rain gear, and almost no sun! (Contrary to popular preference, I hate being in direct sunshine).

I sampled a forest road, was pleased, and will plan a longer route for Tuesday.

I couldn't resist a photo op in Snowball, AR in front of a ghost of a gas station. The woman raking leaves at the house next door said it was her store, but it closed long ago. I asked how long since she last pumped gas. She pondered awhile and just couldn't remember exactly, adding, "time flies, you know." Ain't that the truth.

After being overseas for past six weeks on vacation, my first full day was spend doing oil change on the NC700X as well as a valve clearance check. All was well and it didn’t need any adjustments. I ended stripping the little screw on the radiator cap and will be replacing it later in the week. Surprised how simple it was using YouTube video as my guides.

Sucks that I have to remove my skid plate and a cross beam on my sw motech engine guard but no complaints here since intervals are so far apart.

Got the middle kid (12.5 years old) out on the bike yesterday. She had a blast. We went to my work for a min, and then took the back roads home. Beautiful fall day.
Kid is getting hooked. I had her wear an older riding jacket I have (from when I raced bicycles and was skinny) and my second shoei helmet. And some gloves.

It's weird, I'm always careful when I ride, but with the kids on the back, I'm 1000% more careful. Riding on the backroads feels much better than being on the highway and I think she likes the backroads more as well.

Good few hours..

I finally got around to adjusting the parking brake at the wheel not just the handlebar. There was no room left on the adjustment screw on the handlebar. A 12 mm deep socket, a torque wrench to tighten the nut to 17 newton meters and vise grips plus 15 minutes of my time got the job done.

Started a new trip yesterday, naturally left home in Oregon with 3-4 hours of sideways rain that turned into a cloudless sky once I crossed the border into Kalifornia. 12 hours and 650 miles behind me, I pulled into a rest stop for the nite.

Waking to another cloudless sky, packed an ready to ride!

I continued down I5 for another 300 miles to my destination, enjoying mid-60’s degree temps until halfway up the Grapevine, there someone seemed to have opened an oven and I was riding into it. Temps jump to mid-80’s and then continued to go triple digits by the time I passed Magic Mountain.

Tomorrow I visit Racetech again, then get some electrical work done later in the week, and then off to Pahrump, NV for another off-roading Rally (ADVrider Rally - 3rd Pahrump NV Rally Nov. 2-5, 2017 | Adventure Rider). After that I’m off to Colorado to pick up my deer rifle, then to Kentucky to meet friends for our annual deer hunt (deer hunting, whiskey drinking & poker, not always in that order). After that, a side trip to visit Madstad in Florida, then back to LA for a Turkey day drum stick. And on Black Friday, the La-Barstow-Vegas off road rally (LA / Barstow / Vegas).

Here’s my Spot track if anyone’s interested:

Puhrump, NV & Kentucky

Have fun at the rally! I thought about attending as I really like Death Valley. There are some light trails that our NC700X would do just fine. It’s supposed to be 100+ until Thursday so make sure you keep hydrated!

I store motorcycle in my locked garage. Riding in the rain it gets wet. I often keep the key in the motorcycle so I don't misplace it. Today the key was stuck. Was able to get it out with some brake cleaner. Then the lock wouldn't turn. Used some WD-40 and was back in business.

Moral of the store: Don't leave your key in a wet lock. It might get stuck...quickly(over the weekend). Regular lubing when I do the cables would be a good idea.
