One Year In .. a summary

Ditto. At 72, I gave up my FJR for an NC and have been happy with the decision. I'd love more power but don't need it. I concur on the DCT——no more "old guy sitting at a green light in busy traffic trying to restart his bike and get it into first gear."

Life has a way of getting in the way of fun. Please strike ViperDriver from the list. Maybe next year.

Sounds like the voice of experience? :-) Sometimes I think the purpose of motorcycles is to keep us humble.

Sweet! -- Two Brothers Racing Muffler

Yeah, and most riders get tickets and are involved in accidents. In over 50 years of riding, I've done neither. ;-0 I think I'll stick with what works.

Just got a kitchen pass, so I'll be there Thu-Sat. If anyone in NWA is riding over on Thu, PM me and let's ride together. For those on the fence, northern Arkansas has some of the best riding in the U.S. I've ridden the state since the late 80's and have never tired of it. Y'all c'mon!

Missed the last two years due to travel. Hoping to make this one. Any weekend in April is fine with me.

2017: What did you do to/with your NC700 today?

I took advantage of the 56˚ NW Arkansas weather and took a short ride, then damned near dumped it pulling back into the garage. Rusty, perhaps?

Tips, Tricks, Advice learned from experience

DCTFAN, many thousands of words in dozens of forums and blogs across the web have been written on this topic. About half agree with you. Unfortunately, physics and my personal experience don't. I understand that the traction being used for turning the bike isn't available for braking and...

Tips, Tricks, Advice learned from experience

Great thread! Thanks for starting it. To maneuver a DCT at low speeds (e.g., a 180 on a narrow two-lane road), steer with the rear brake. Before you start your turn, lean forward and shift enough weight to the pegs to be light in the seat--it helps with balance. Now come on with enough rear...

    Advice re touring luggage?

I've found the advice of one of my favorite author/adventurers, Antoine de Saint-Exupery, to be valuable in many areas of my life, including packing for motorcycle travel. He said, "A designer knows he has achieved perfection not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left...

    Avon Storm 3D X-M

Time for new tires. A high-mileage sport touring tire would fit my riding style. Has anyone used the Avon Storm 3D X-M on the NC?

    DCT In Review

After many years (50+) of clutch-throttle-shifter monkey-motion, I bought the DCT. After two years of riding with it, I hope I never have to go back. I used manual mode at first, thinking I could do things better, but after hitting the rev limiter while passing a couple of times I decided auto...

Sweet! -- Two Brothers Racing Muffler

I made the decision to replace the whisper-quiet stock muffler with a TBR slip-on not because I want to make noise, but so that I can hear my engine. Let me explain. I wear a full-face helmet with earplugs. With the stock muffler at highway speeds, I can't hear the engine. That means I have...

I can't feel my seat! (Russell Daylong 1 year report)

6' 0", ~31 inseam, 230 lbs (blush). With the stock seat I could easily flat-foot. With the Russell, I can't. Having ridden many gangly dirt bikes in the past, I don't really notice. I also agree that Russell's focus is touring seats. That's what I wanted as I don't use my NC as an off road...

I can't feel my seat! (Russell Daylong 1 year report)

Last September, I posted http://nc700-forum.com/forum/nc700-general-discussion/9747-ah-comfort-last.html about some comfort mods to my NC700XD, the most important (and costly!) of which was my new Russell seat. I've not put as many miles on my bike in the past year as I'd wished--too much...

    Close Call

I guess we all have such a tale. Nice that we are still around to tell them. Here's mine. It was barely daylight as I headed to work on a lightly-trafficked four-lane. I came up on a lumber truck in the right lane going about ten under the speed limit. As I changed to the inside lane to...

    Identity

On the bike on the road, identity is simple. I’m me. Off the bike off the road, identity gets a lot more complicated. I have to have a name. I have to be from somewhere. I have to be going somewhere. I have to have something I do for a living. And so on. Why? I think me is enough.

Weebles wobble but they don't fall down.

Feet off the pegs at low speed guarantees the wobblies. The key is to (a) get both feet on the pegs as the clutch comes out and (b) make your launches fairly aggressive. Don't wheelie, but don't dilly-dally either. I've done this for years and it works. I guess I'm in the "very small minority"...
