It was a pain in my arse also, but I love my Kaoko. I sprayed a (very) little WD40 behind the tabs, then had the wife hold the retainer clip with two small screwdrivers while I wacked a threaded bolt/vise grip contraption with a hammer. Came out in just a couple wacks.
