Hey, it's you lot who drive on the wrong side of the road. I'm coming to the US next month, and I'm renting a car: I'll prove it to you then!

I know you'll be careful. Please.

Reminded me that 20 years ago I was active on a GoldWing mail list. Remember those? Pre-forum, whenever someone posted their message was fired out to everyone on the list, usually almost immediately. Yes I got 50+ emails every day.
Good friend frequent poster Whale lived down under and owned a company that was preparing all the governments' computers to survive the potential Y2K crash. Made lots of dough and planned to visit the US (for the first time) once his work was done.

In 2000 he landed in New York and immediately rented a new GoldWing just like his at home. Plans had already been made for him to spend months touring the country and meeting up with other posters (like me) to party and ride together. Experience of a lifetime.
Third day in New York he relaxed, went into a fast sweeper in the left lane and hit a semi head on. All of the "worst possible" factors lined up and killed him.

I was home from work and online at that instant. I was shocked as messages started coming in that he was injured in a crash. Couldn't (didn't want to) believe it but a few hours later someone posted a link to the local newspaper that carried the story with pictures. Still bothers me.

I was in England a few times while in the military and can't even imagine trying to drive on the other side. First roundabout would totally screw me up!
Hey, be careful out there.

Busy day:
New Avon Trailriders, front and rear
New front brake pads
New dampers for cush drive
New chain (22,000 miles on old one)
New front and rear sprockets (38,000 miles on originals, still had some life)
New Nemo style chain oiler
New chain slider
DIY rear shock protector

and threw together a video of ride in May.

Interesting that it is two days. Mine was one full day. Most of the time we were running drills on the bike. There were two instructors and six students, so we had a lot of one-on-one.

JT

They offer some two day courses in the area. Today was emergency braking and linking that with a slow speed course for escape and evade. Yesterday I was challenging myself by doing the set up standing and parts with one handed. Overall concept of counter balance steering was interesting. Good refresher and experience but would like something more challenging. Something to think about net year :)

Changed out the flat Michelin on the rear with a Shinko 705. I went up to the 170/60 instead of the 150/70 because I think that a slightly wider tire is better than a taller tire. Of course a little math showed me that the sidewall of the 170 is closer to the height of the stock tires, the difference being less that the total usable tread depth. Now we will see how it handles with two different tires on it.;)

Hey NC, mine handles just fine with two diff tires on it. I have better then have tread left on my front Conti-Motion when i mounted my new 705 on the rear.

Busy day.... New Nemo style chain oiler

Hey Chabon, i tried to find one of those Nemo style chain oilers and was not able to locate one for sale. Where did you get yours, do you have a link i can find it with..?
Thanks :{)

I got off from work early today and came home to go for a ride and found that my Dale's windscreen nut plates had arrived, so i happily installed them and then went for an 130 mile ride. I rode up to the Albeni Falls Dam and checked it out. No pics as the falls were closed... :{

This one on Amazon is about 1/2 the price of a Nemo

And this is the one I got, about 1/3 the cost and it even says Nemo on it, I imagine they are all made at the same factory.

Man, the reviews on that Alibaba oiler were pretty bad. Anxious to see how it works for you.

Got off from work a little early again today so i grabbed the opportunity to take a short ride over into Spokane Washington. I stopped off at Dick's Drive-In for a Huckleberry Shake. Then rode home to work on some Honey-Do's... :{P

I’ve had a few oilers and this one works better than any of the more expensive ones I’ve had. Easy to use, simple design. The trick is to fill it properly and maintain the seal/vacuum on the reservoir. There are some YouTube videos that show how to properly fill it and bleed it.

Afan's locked frunk problem prompted me to buy a spare key for my NC (Yes I know it wouldn't help his problem). I'd been meaning to get a backup for touring for a while. Now there's one at home, the user key and the extra to carry.

My frunk key is different than the ignition key, they are connected via 2 small key rings linked together (better flexibility), and I have yet to have the slightest issue of locking them in anything. If they are not in the frunk or ignition, they go into my jeans pocket, never jacket pocket. I don't think I will be taking my pants off and locking them in the frunk (unless its a real party), so it's a pretty failsafe deal. I am thinking about linking the two with thicker key rings to eliminate any slight potential for losing one or the other though.

Shit happens. When I tour I carry extra fuel and a flat repair kit although I've never needed them. Having an extra key doesn't seem out of line.

On trips, I trade the extra key with a friend. Therefore I don’t lock my primary and extra away somewhere by accident.

Same here; if I'm going away for a weekend with my wife as pillion, she carries a spare set on her.

Ditto. One of my riding partners (usually my brother) gets one of mine and I get his.

I don't know much about crossing into Canada since I live wayyyyy far from there, but what is required of you to be able to pass into Canada? How does the border crossing work?
