Passed 72,000 miles on 14 May 2017 - only problem was a failing kickstand kill switch causing random engine kills - that was a while back, there's a thread on here about it somewhere.
*Update* . . . after a lot of research, investigation, visiting and talking with people at the dealership in Sturgis - ends up I bought a 2016 F800GT yesterday (28, April 2017). It wasn't ready to take yet, I'll have to wait until next week, but then it'll have the saddle bags I wanted too...
For anyone who might be interested - to change the air filter you only need to remove the three body panels indicated in the photo, and the battery cover. I didn't keep track, so its up to the user to figure out what screws and clips need to be removed, but it's not too tough to figure out. The...
Sounds like a great bike - and not to insult anybody - a step up. The NC700X is a great platform and does so many things well - for the places and kinds of riding I do - but it needs to be ~1,000cc or something!?! And to it's credit for my next bike I'm trying to figure out how close I can get...
Sorry to hear but don't worry about it ;-) Some years back I got wide in a turn and slid on the gravel into a ditch, rode it the ~80 miles home. Then replaced the mirror, turn signals, bent handle bar, broken plastic parts . . . but the battle-scars on the remaining parts remind me every time I...
Here's a different kind of milestone . . . my Iron Butt Membership Number in miles on the motorcycle. Got in ~430 miles today, and a total of ~1,450 for the five days around the Holiday weekend.
Sorry to hear of your experience and hopes for as speedy a recovery as possible. I haven't been involved in anything that significant but have had my share of close calls - Even when you're in the right on a motorcycle, you can still lose - ATGATT. Beyond that, that someone else through...
Have thought exactly the same thing - love the format of the NC700X but really wish there was a 1000cc version - Up hill, into the wind, trying to pass a double-trailer semi on the Interstate - it just needs a little more hp.
The closest thing looks to be the AfricaTwin Honda is coming out...
Not sure if you guys saw, in another thread I posted pics of the factory gears off my bike that I didn't change out until 50,000 miles when I put on (I think?) the fourth chain. Those factory gears are really pretty tough...
105mph for some miles (not just peaking at there!) - you can't just rip the throttle and do it, but is a stable platform at that speed when you get there - out in the boonies 80-85 w decent tires is easy and great fun out here
This is probably my fourth? or fifth? front-tire - first time I ever ran it down to the wear-bars on a front-tire - NOT RECOMMENDED!! Hard to describe but there is something unnatural about the feel of riding a front-tire with so little tread - I already have it's replacement on hand but timing...
I would say the DID KM500R Chain Tool is a service shop quality tool. It easily helps you press on the outer plate, flare the rivets, and cut a chain (or push out pins to remove an old chain). I had no problems flaring the rivet heads to factory spec 5.5-5.8mm on the first try - I highly...
Maybe. I did check the safety-wire at various points and it remained intact for some time but seemed to be loosening slowly - the stress, flexing, vibration, acceleration, deceleration, . . . ?? Again 50-80mph for 3-4-5hs at a time isn't just poking around in town - I attribute it to that.
